One Year Later
Okay, so this probably isn’t a reason to get all nostalgic and sappy and I’m sorry for putting my face in the tag but today marks one full year I’ve been in the SPG fandom. (The only reason I know is because it was the day after the AEH video came out hahahaha.) And, wow, what a hell of a year it’s been. I’ve watched this fandom grow and grow, seen people come and leave. Watched religiously for 74 days as we were updated on zoo shenanigans.
I decided to pick up a crochet hook again after half-heartedly making hats for the past year. I made my own pattern for dolls and decided it was a good idea to make yarn versions of all six members of SPG. The response I got from my Lil SPG dolls was overwhelming, and is still overwhelming to this day. The outpouring of gratitude I feel every time I see Lil Steve referenced or my dolls show up in photos from conventions or in various tags cannot be adequately put in words.
Through the fandom I discovered some of the coolest friends I will ever have. I have been inspired by amazing art, cosplays, and talents and outpourings of love and friendship from people of all walks of life. I wouldn’t have the wonderful group of friends I had now if I hadn’t gotten into this band. Friends I will have for years. Friends who are kind enough to let me stay with them as I go to San Diego in July.
Yes, there have been… numerous rough points in this fandom. There have been and are problems. It’s pretty naive not to acknowledge it but I want to focus on the good today. On this sappy and sentimental day for me.
So, one full year later, I just want to say this: Thank you. To the fandom and especially to the members this silly steampunk band from California. It’s been a wonderful, bizarre year.
